Who is Prof. Chapman?

We all have a story. Here's a summary of mine.

I grew up on Eight Mile in Detroit (10 blocks from Eminem's trailer park). I spent a year living with my grandparents outside of Chicago.

My family then moved to rural Oklahoma with my dad's automotive industry job. I was 1 of 8 (!) students in my rural Oklahoma class. I graduated high school at a Benedictine monastery/boy's boarding high school.

Graduating from university was my way out of rural Oklahoma. I earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. (Go Sooners!)

I then moved to New Jersey and helped design an undersea submarine detection system. The movie The Hunt For Red October has our sub detection system in it.

My university degree, and the job I got with it, let me spend time in Washington D.C., NYC, Boston, Pittsburg, San Francisco, La Jolla, and San Diego.

I then moved to Berkeley and earned a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC-Berkeley.

Teaching

My two university degrees let me become a professor. I've taught math, physics, engineering, computer science, and drafting courses.

Before coming to CRC I taught at Sac State, ARC, SCC, Merced College, and CSU-Maritime Academy.

I've been at CRC since the fall of 2000 teaching CISP courses in Algorithm Development, Visual Basic, C++, UNIX, Assembly Language, Windows, web programming, and database.

Other Stuff

Because of my university degrees I've traveled to the Yucatan and Baja pennisulas in Mexico, Canada, Thailand, Taiwan, mainland China, France, and Japan.

I have several off-campus hobbies. I fly fish for smallmouth bass, steelhead, and trout, and striped bass. I like to fish in the American River through Sacramento.

My previous dog Otto loved to come along with me on hikes and fishing trips. My current dog Roxanne is always on the alert for a ball.

I am an avid tennis player.

I like to try out new foods.

Maybe someday I'll become a professional Taiko player, or an on-call turkey griller, or take my nieces up on their offer to be their girl band guitarist.
